The new GGBH ATTRACTIONS system
July 2021
This new system was introduced as lockdown ends in England – for you to find, in one place, a list of local attractions for your family to visit.
We are grateful to the Lottery Fund who part sponsored the work to develop the system. In practice, it still ‘work in process’ are we continue to add, modify and improve both this rich source of data and to add new features.
Please note although it works on a mobile phone, the format is not ideal.
What do we have?
Over 350 ‘local’ places that are worth a visit and, against each one, the name and type of attraction, the postcode, the website, and the approximate distance in miles. In addition, we point to some “indexes” which themselves point to a website that has a long list of further attractions.
The screen is split into two parts – at the TOP part enter your selection keywords (or filter) and the BOTTOM to
see the sites that fit your search. When you launch the program, all sites are visible – 10 at a time, but it’s just too much so we allow you to hone into a specific set of attractions.
- Each attraction takes up one line and if you click on the website, you can find a lot more information
- If you want to sort any column, then just click the text at the head of the column. Here is an example – you want to find all “railways”. Go to the search box, type in “railway” and you will see all the model or real railways in alphabetical order. Then click on the column labels distance and it will give you the same list but in order of distance so you can see how far away it is!
